Frequently Asked Questions

What does a typical worship service look like?

All of our services are modern, fresh, updated, and relevant. The music is led by a band, consisting of several vocalist, guitars, drums, keyboards, and various other instruments. When the beautiful hymns are sung, we often will update them with fresh chorus.

Following an inspirational song service, a practical message from the Bible is presented. That is followed by a communion service, which we observe weekly. This is a very special time to remember the sacrifice Jesus paid for us. (During the Saturday 5:30 PM and Sunday 9:30 AM services, Believers are invited to the table to pick up the emblems. During the Sunday 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM services, communion is served and taken in unison.)

Worship services are about one hour in length.

What should I wear to the worship service?

Casual dress is the norm. Don’t make any special arrangements, we want you to come just as you are. Some come in jeans, some come in suit and tie. Wear what makes you comfortable.

Should I bring a Bible when I come on Sunday?

We encourage you to bring your Bible and a pen every weekend. Most scripture, however, is also on a large screen for easy reading. Notes are also provided for further study. Most of the time, we use the New International Version (NIV).

What does FCC have for children and teens?

Our children and youth programs are some of the best. You may check out their websites KidsROCK and IMPULSE. Link to them from the images below.

During all four of the worship services, we provide safe and instructional care for all children, five years old and younger. During the 9:30 AM worship service, we provide classes for all children and youth. During the 11:00 AM worship service, we provide age appropriate worship experience for all children and youth.

Will my kids be safe?

Fortville Christian Church has a sophisticated children’s check-in system to ensure your child’s safety and well being – and your peace of mind. After you enter the front doors, the nursery and toddler areas are immediately to the left. There, our staff will assist you in checking your child in their appropriate rooms.

Will I be asked to give money when I come?

As a guest, you will NOT be expected to participate in the giving portion of our worship. However, if Fortville Christian Church is your church home, then we ask you to be faithful to God in your giving and partner with us in accomplishing God’s work in central Indiana. During the 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM services, offering is collected by passing offering plates. Or, you can simply drop your offering in the large black boxes near the exits.

Will I be singled out as a visitor?

As our guest, you will not be asked to stand and introduce yourself. We value your right to anonymity and our hope is that you will just come. When you feel comfortable, you may sign our attendance book or visitor coupon for a free gift.

What kind of church is FCC?

Fortville Christian Church is not affiliated with any denomination. That’s why we call ourselves “non-denominational.” Technically speaking, we are a restoration movement church. We teach Christianity based solely on the Bible. We believe the Bible is the infallible word of God and it is our standard for all we do. For a more complete look at our beliefs, please click on “Core Beliefs” below.

What are your core beliefs?

The Bible is the written, inerrant word of God.
God is the author of the entire Bible. God used chosen authors, inspiring them to write His Word. The Bible is fully truthful in all of its teachings. The Bible reveals God's plan and is our instruction manual for life (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

God the Father is the Creator of all things.
God existed before all things. He is the Designer and Creator of the universe. He is all-loving, all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect in every way, and never changing. He is the One who sustains life today. He devised the plan that allows us to come to Him and establish a personal relationship (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 90:2).

Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Jesus and His Father were together before the beginning of time. He was born of a virgin and became man, lived a perfect life, and died for the sins of all. He revealed the characteristics of God the Father. He was put to death, buried in a grave, and arose from the dead to live forever (John 1:1-2; 19:1-42; 20:1-31; Hebrews 4:15;).

The Holy Spirit lives within the believer today.
When we say yes to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we receive the Holy Spirit to protect us, and to instruct us. The Holy Spirit brings comfort to the believer (John 14:15-17; Acts 2:38).

God offers forgiveness of sins.
The gift of eternal life is available to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son. Jesus is the only way to God. Those accepting Christ must surrender their lives to Him by turning away from sin, professing their faith in Him, and being baptized by immersion. When a life is surrendered to God, Jesus Christ bridges the gap between God and sinful man, and the separation no longer exists (John 3:16; Acts 22:16).

The church refers to people, not buildings.
The church is the living body of Christ, and every believer has a significant role in this Body. Jesus Christ is the head of the church, and we do not elevate one person over another. We do not "go to church," but rather the church comes together to worship the Father and the Son, while being led by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:12-14).

The future holds the return of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus returns to earth again, we all will stand before Him. Some will spend eternity with God in His heaven because of their relationship with Jesus, and those who have rejected Christ will be separated from Him forever (John 3:36; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-15).

What is the history of FCC?

It was a Friday night, August 23, 1871, when several families came together to talk about starting a church in the Fortville area. The next day, N.A. Walker, an elder from a church in Indianapolis met with the group. They decided to have an evangelistic meeting at the Levi Thomas Grove, to begin the very next day and run for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, the church had a membership of 45 believers.

The first minister was J.W. Ferrell. He served for several years and helped organize the Sunday School program in 1872.

This very young church decided they needed a church building. The entire community came together and helped frame a structure, which cost $1400. It was completed and dedicated on the 3rd Sunday in June, 1872.

By 1900 the membership had increased and there was a need for a larger building. The brick church building at 10 W. Church St. was constructed. Continual growth made it necessary to add on in 1926, 1943 and 1959.

In 1966, Mary Rushton and her family donated 6 ½ acres of land from a field about one mile south of Fortville in memory of Frank M. Rushton. A new 22,000 sq. ft. church building was constructed for $250,000. Services began in the new building on New Years Day, 1967. Gilbert Schrieber was the Sr. Minister at that time. Major remodeling and the addition of children’s classrooms and offices took place in 2000 at the cost of $1,600,000. Pat Mooney was the Sr. Minister at that time.

Today, Fortville Christian Church continues to see God’s blessings and direction for growth. May we continue to be faithful to Him as the history of FCC is written.
